Client news: Kolbe maximizes views with oversized openings

Kolbe will be exhibiting at IBS in booth W3729

Responding to homeowners’ desires for bigger and bigger openings, Kolbe will showcase several expansive windows and doors at the 2012 International Builders Show (IBS) in booth W3729. Custom products from Kolbe’s Ultra Series will debut at IBS:
* a 90-degree wall unit for corner views,
* a 7-foot-tall awning window finished in black,
* a four-panel-wide Folding Window System to complement the Folding Door System, and
* a 10-foot-high door with a palm tree design.

Returning to IBS will be large-proportioned favorites such as a five-panel pocketing TerraSpan® lift and slide door, and two 10-foot-tall Majesta® double hung windows topped with transoms. These Majesta windows include one as an Ultra Series aluminum clad unit with double pane glass and one as a Heritage Series all-wood unit with triple pane glass.

“When homeowners imagine their dream home on their dream location, they picture a beautiful cityscape or landscape viewed through the largest windows and grandest entrances that they can conceive of,” says Cindy Bremer, Kolbe’s vice president of marketing. “Personalizing the products to match the homeowners’ individual design and style, we combine their vision with the practical aspects of energy efficiency, low maintenance and easy operation, regardless of their sizeable scale.”

Wrapping a home’s corner for continuous views and a contemporary look, Kolbe’s Ultra Series 90-degree wall unit on display at IBS is comprised of Beveled Direct Set windows and awnings. Each side of the corner spans more than 10-by-10-feet, integrating awnings that conveniently open with motorized operators. Highlighting the wall units’ modern aesthetic, the interior is neatly framed in maple and the exterior is clad with aluminum with a clear anodized finish for a sleek appearance. The aluminum contains recycled content.

Along with natural light, fresh air and maximized views, the 90-degree wall unit also demonstrates energy-efficient, insulating glass choices. One side has glass with LoE²-270 coating, which is standard on most Kolbe products. The other side is LoE³-366, which blocks 95% of UV light to protect furniture, carpets, curtains and wall coverings from fading. Keeping the interior comfortable, LoE³-366 also is formulated to reject unwanted solar heat, allow natural daylight and maintain outside views.

These energy-efficient glass options are available on more than 20,000 Kolbe products that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR® ratings in both U.S. and Canada. Also at IBS, insulating with LoE²-270 coating is featured on Kolbe’s oversized 60-by-84-inch Ultra Series awning windows. Performance divided lites (PDLs) provide visual interest without sacrificing thermal efficiency. Enhancing the distinctive appearance, both the interior wood and the aluminum clad exterior are finished in black. Special hardware ensures smooth, effortless operation, in spite of unit’s heft and height.

Kolbe’s Ultra Series products have exteriors clad in low-maintenance, extruded aluminum containing recycled content. The outer, metal surfaces may be finished in environmentally friendly, durable coatings in a broad palette of colors. For the interior, a range of sustainably harvested wood species can be selected, such as those certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Kolbe products’ environmental attributes also support projects pursuing green goals including U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Rating System™, Green Globes™ and ENERGY STAR®.

Kolbe’s website contains a database for thousands of Kolbe’s ENERGY STAR qualified products, as well as air, water, structural and thermal reports. The site’s Architect Library and online resources can help simplify the research and specifying process. For example, design teams can easily communicate and visually customize many Ultra Series’ product dimensions and functionality using Kolbe’s 3D Revit® building information models (BIM). In addition to BIM tools, visitors can access 2-D drawings; warranties, installation and maintenance information, and online videos to demonstrate product operation and performance testing.
