Association News: Vote online by Feb. 10 for your favorite Videotect entry

Architecture Minnesota’s Videotect competition turns the camera on sustainable transportation

Videotect 2, Architecture Minnesota magazine’s second annual video competition, unveiled 39 entries on architecturemn.com. Online voting is open February 1–10, 2012. All visitors to architecturemn.com can view the entries and vote for their favorite. The top vote-getters will be screened and voted on again at the Walker Art Center on March 1, with the winner taking home the $2,000 Viewers’ Choice Award.

The 39 videos, all 30 to 120 seconds in length, present a point of view on transportation choices, their impact on the environment and human health, and the role that design can play in enhancing them.

In addition to the Viewers’ Choice award, the entries will be judged by an all-star jury:
* Minnesota Public Radio arts reporter Marianne Combs (@stateofthearts),
* Minneapolis (@CityMinneapolis) transit-development director David Frank,
* Walker Art Center film and video curator (@walker_film) Sheryl Mousley, and
* architect Jeffrey Scherer, FAIA, (@ghosttraveler) of Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle.
The jury will select a $2,000 Grand Prize winner and four $500 Honorable Mentions.

On of my favorite theater companies, Four Humors Theater, submitted video #4 “Walking PSA.” I would love to see this entry shown on the big screen at the Walker.

I will be volunteering at the March 1 screening event at the Walker Art Center — a Target FREE Thursday Night program. Attendees are encouraged to arrive an hour early to pick up a complimentary ticket at the Vineland Place entrance. Food and drink will be available before and after the 7 p.m. show at the Garden Café by D’Amico.

It is my privilege to be a part of the behind-the-scenes Videotect team. I am proud to be a member of Architecture Minnesota’s editorial board, which has nurtured the competition from an idea to an annual event with international submissions that challenge and inspire our perceptions on transit, structure and sustainability.
