Chicago Metallic® Corporation earned four 2011 Construction Excellence Awards from the Ceilings & Interior Systems Construction Association (CISCA). These prestigious awards recognize CISCA members who produced the year’s finest examples of interior commercial construction.

The 2011 Construction Excellence Awards were presented to the winners on April 18, 2012 at the CISCA Annual Convention and INTEX Expo in Charlotte, N.C. Chicago Metallic Corporation honors include:

* Gold Award, Boutique Projects, for the Buffalo Sabres’ ice hockey team dressing room in the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y. It features an elliptically shaped, metal, custom ceiling that mimics the contours of the ice arena using Chicago Metallic’s SpanAir™ Torsion Spring ceiling panels and Infinity™ Perimeter Trim. Cannon Design of Grand Island, N.Y., served as the architect and Gypsum Systems, Inc. of Elma, N.Y., was the installation contractor. (Click here for case study PDF.)

* Gold Award, Ceilings Category, East Region, for the Bradley Central High School’s Fine Arts Center in Cleveland, Tenn. Designed by KBJM Architects, TRI-CON was the general contractor for the Tennessee-based team. Wallace Tile worked on a constricted schedule and budget. The company installed Chicago Metallic’s 1200 Seismic Suspension System to aid in the creation of floating ceiling sections housing acoustic panels, CurvGrid™ Two-Directional Aluminum Suspension System with solid aluminum panels, and Infinity Perimeter Trim for a crisp, clean look. * Silver Award, Ceilings Category, East Region, for the North Carolina History Center at Tryon Palace in New Bern. Architectural firms, BJAC in Raleigh, N.C., and Quinn Evans in Washington, D.C., guided the transformation of this former Barbour Boat Works warehouse into a center that connects the past to the present. Raleigh-based Acousti Engineering Co. installed Chicago Metallic’s Planostile™ Snap-in Metal Ceiling Panels, Infinity Perimeter Trim, 15/16-inch Seismic 1200 Suspension System, and Monarch™ GE panels to achieve the project’s aesthetic, performance, and sustainable design goals. * Bronze Award, Interior Finishes Category, East Region, for University of South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C. Jumper, Carter Sease Architects teamed with JHS Architects to design this football stadium featuring Chicago Metallic’s multiple metal ceiling systems, panel systems, suspension systems, and custom finishes. Morris Nussbaum, the university’s director of building services, managed the ceiling system installation. The project includes such notable spaces as the barrel vault ceiling connecting the Players Lounge concourse and locker room, created using Planar® Linear Metal Panels with a Reflective Chrome Finish and Open Plenum CubeGrid™ in a garnet color to match the USC team colors; luxurious donors and private suites with Planostile ceiling panels, a metal product with the look of wood; renovated USC Champions Club and Executive Club with Infinity Perimeter Trim, and the 600-level seating area’s logo-embossed Eurostone™ Ceiling Panels. CISCA Construction Excellence Awards’ judges review in-depth submission presentations to assess the nominees’ quality, conditions, complexity and overall finished projects. The 2011 CISCA Construction Excellence Awards’ categories include: Ceilings, Renovation, Interior Finishes, Acoustical Solutions, and Boutique. Boutique category entries are judged as a group and all of the other categories compete with projects located within the same geographical region.

Gold, Silver and Bronze may be awarded in each category and region. The judges also may select Special Awards, such as The Founder’s Award. Winners are featured in CISCA’s “Acoustical Interior Construction” magazine and on the association’s website.

For the 2011 Construction Excellence Awards, projects must have been completed between July 2010 and January 2012, within 18 months of the nomination and not previously submitted. While the competition is open to all, the installing contractor and manufacturer on the project, as well as the company submitting the entry, must be CISCA members.

CISCA has recognized Chicago Metallic Corporation’s contributions to award-winning projects for many years. As part of the 2010 Construction Excellence Awards, the company was honored for the MIT Sloan School of Management in Cambridge, Mass., which earned the Founder’s Award and Gold Award in the Ceilings Category for the East Region; and the New World Symphony Campus in Miami Beach, Fla., which won the Gold Award in the Interior Finishes Category for the South Region. In 2009, the company’s work received the Silver Award in the Ceilings Category for the South Region for Winthrop University’s Carroll Hall in Rock Hill, S.C.
