KKE Architects’ LEED Achievements

Personnel Announcements
Nathan Burt, Michelle Piontek and Tim Powers are KKE Architects’ latest architects to achieve the designation of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional. A thorough understanding of green building principles and practices is necessary to pass the LEED exam. Due to an office-wide challenge, an impressive 40% of the KKE architectural staff is LEED accredited. KKE Board of Director members Ron Erickson, Greg Hollenkamp and Randy Lindemann are among the LEED Accredited Professionals.

Project Announcement
The Elk River Public Library, Elk River, Minn., was awarded LEED Gold certification.  It is the first library in the State of Minnesota to receive such certification. Notable LEED components include:
* innovative daylight harvesting and controls,
* geothermal and displacement ventilation that contribute to a projected 61% operational cost savings,
* 50% water use reductions on site, and
* sustainable and regional materials throughout the building’s interior and exterior.

KKE was responsible for the programming, planning, architecture and interior design as well as the LEED consulting for this library.
